SOS Alert Mobile Application

Now days people are always concern about safety. Safety as a individual or as in a community. I believe most of us will have their mobile phone. Even some of us can't leave their smart phone behind.

I would like to share this smartphone application called The “Community Alerts”. 

The "Community Alerts"

This app was  developed by PDRM Johor. The “Community Alerts” can be downloaded for free where it will speed up the emergency response process through accurate and speedy information to IPK Johor Command Control Centre (CCC) within seconds via Smartphone/Android Mobile Technology.

  It is only a first time registration of which we are required to enter 3 fields of data, your NRIC, full name and mobile number. This is to avoid for you to be unable to be track while you are really in emergency. All information will be keep on your phone, only after you press the SOS button, all of your information will be send to the Johor PDRM. This app is open not only for Malaysian but also for foreigner who are in Johor.

Anyone from any age can use their Smartphone to send out SOS emergency alerts when they see or witness an event happening live in front of their eyes such as, an Accident, Burglary, Snatch Theft, Flood, Fire and want to report of behalf of 3rd party victim. Of course, the user can activate the SOS emergency if they themselves are involved in similar situation or other category of incident.”

Please Note: You should only use the “Community Alerts” service to alert the Police in emergency situations when a crime is happening, someone is injured in an accident/incident, being threatened or anyone/property is in imminent danger.

iPads for Kids

I still remember when I was still a  kids, I will always can't wait for the time to show 4.00pm. This is when my favourite cartoon will be aired on TV. ThunderCat, Sailor Moon, He-Man, Duck Tales, Rugrats are a few of them. After 1 hour of seeing my cartoons, I will switch the TV off and wait outside for the "Roti-Men" to come by in his motorcycle, full of varieties of breads, cakes and junk foods. At only 5.30pm I am allowed to go out from my house to play with my friends within the same area of mine. We will either cycle to a park near by or just play our traditional game. the "teng-teng" of the aeroplane jumping, galah panjang, main getah or the skipping rope was so fun. We will played until we hear our mom calling us back as it is almost Maghrib.

Now, I have 2 daughters, age 8 and 5 years old. They are not obsess of the TV, they won't wait in front of the gate for the "Roti-men" to come. They don't even bother to asked me to buy for them a bicycle. What they always argue about is " Mummy's iPad".

Yes, my kids are not Gen-x or even Gen-y kids. They are being revolve in Technology worlds.

Why the iPad is great for kids?
According to Karen Wohlwend Phd, Assistant Professor Literacy, Culture and Language Education from Indiana University, "Children learn far more than the story in an e-book or the math skills in a puzzle game when they play on an iPad. They also learn a complex set of attitudes and literacy practices necessary operating new technologies". As the kids tap and sweep, they're generating and trying out many possible solutions, evaluating the results and discarding them, all in a moment.

Since iPad is just tap and sweep, even my 5 years old daughter who still can not read are much faster learner when it comes to operate a new applications on the screen of which she just downloaded. She will explore and with just a bit of trail and error she will be able to operate the iPad with out lengthy demonstration from an adult.

Being a "good and responsible" mother I will need to know what good app are for my children. Therefor I bought this MAGBOOK that tells me about the 500 best apps to help your child and play. This magazine will have apps that are suitable for children from the age of 0 month to 16 years old. There are apps of which the kids can play alone or we can play together with our child. Your children can learn song, time, shapes and they can even learn languages, playing music instrument or even astronomy. Knowledge is power and information are beyond your mind.

As i believe iPad is one source of great educational device, but our children will also need to explore their world and surrounding using concrete materials as well. Socialize with other children and interact with other people. Play with real pets and plant a real tomato.
Being a parent, we should always know how to balance and monitor this for our children.

Robots that help with housework

 

As I was flipping thru the newspaper this morning, this article catches my eye.(Source : The Star, Star Special : Homes) Vacuum cleaner that cleans my floor.iRobot is the world's first and only (wet and dry) robotic cleaning system. Either iRobot Roomba for vacuum cleaning or the iRobot Scooba for floor-washing robot for home use.

The interesting about iRobot Roomba is that it’s automatically navigates around your house thoroughly, cleaning up to 99% of your floor. (Hmmm... bye-bye broom). It's built-in intelligence automatically returns it to its self-charging home. Roomba's exclusive Dirt Detect sensors will tell it to work more intensively at dirtier areas.A built-in clock and scheduling function allows you to set daily work times. (If I were to leave for a long outstation, I won't need to worry about me coming home to a clean dirt free floor).Its patented three-stages cleaning system includes a spinning side-brush, two counter-rotating brushes and a powerful vacuum. 

Robot Scooba uses a four-stage cleaning system to prepare, wash, scrub and squeegee the floor. Scooba uses only clean water to wash floors every time, while the collected dirty water is stored separately.(Hmmm... bye-bye pail and mop). It even washes hard to reach places.

My First Experience Blogging

If it was not due to MIS750 assignment for us to create our own blog, I believe I won't be seating here cracking my head to learn and explore this fantastic "new system" of which I always hear about - blogs and blogger.
Even in my work nature in a Corporate Communication Department, of which we have to looks for all this blogs.. It has never come into my mind for me to become a "Blogger".

Well today, on this remarkable day, 20th October 2013.. I am officially a BLOGGER!!!
